Banshee is (drumroll please) DONE!
Thursday, December 31st, 2009The first word in my novel “The Banshee’s Walk” is ‘if.’ The very last word is ‘town.’
Stick 85,824 other words between them, and you’ll have the whole book.
I put THE END in big all-caps at the bottom of the last page and centered them at 0801 on New Year’s Eve of 2009. Sure, it needs a rewrite, maybe two, but rewrites are a breeze compared to starting with nothing and keeping it not just going but singing the whole way.
There is murder. There is sneaking around. There are biscuits. Banshees. Uneasy alliances. Baths gone horribly wrong. Dried owls. Bumps in the night. Fires and foes, loves and losses.
Tomorrow, I may well spot gaping plot holes or continuity errors or I may realize I had Character A reveal something in Chapter Two they couldn’t possibly have known until Chapter Five. But that’s all fixable, all correctable, and tomorrow is the best time to worry about all that.
Tonight, I’ll just be content it’s done.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with my focus on the novel’s progress. It’s been a big help to me, seeing how many people read this blog (yeah, I can see that!). I hope one day some of you will be reading the book and you’ll think ‘Hey, I remember watching this guy write this!’
In any case, I wish you all a Happy New Year, and a very good night!
Frank
