New Absinthe Junk CD Living Ghosts
We ate lunch at a Chinese place, which of course resulted in the presentation of the fortune cookies with the check.
Most of my fortunes are pretty standard fare – you are liked by many, you will have a pleasant day, your Yankee dollar is worthless, all your bases are belong to us now. Once I got one that read “Inspected by Number 7” but that turned out to be a tragic mix-up involving underwear.
Today’s fortune promised a bit more – “Good fortune awaits you at home.”
I liked that one. My first thought was that perhaps a UPS truck filled with high-end PC gaming parts had spilled a load of six-core processors and fantastically expensive GPU boards at my door before speeding away in a shower of money.
I didn’t get that.
But I did get my copy of Absinthe Junk’s new CD,
Living Ghosts.
If you’ve never given Absinthe Junk a listen, you should. You can even listen to a free track from their website, www.myspace.com/absinthejunk. Check it out!
I love ‘Living Ghosts.’ It rocks when it wants to and it’s sad when it feels sad and it’s angry and it’s introspective and it’s dark and it’s light. I like music that takes me on a ride, and Absinthe Junk always goes somewhere new.
Technically, the CD is perfection. Production is flawless; I tried it in my big old-school amp and chest-high speakers rig and then in my elaborate 7 channel PC setup, and it sounds great in both. The vocals are clear, the instruments are right there, and it’s more an experience than a mere listening.
Absinthe Junk is a band on the move. Better still, they’re making their own sound, blazing their own trail. This isn’t another bunch of Evanescence wannabees.
The band hails from Nashville, so getting a CD from them so soon after the flood was a pleasant surprise. Add to that the presence of free goodies (a laminated ‘backstage pass,’ a button, a decal) included with the mailing, and that fortune cookie was dead on the money.
So all you rockers out there, give ‘em a listen.
That’s all for now! Except a word on the release date of the new Markhat novel. “The Banshee’s Walk” will be released on June 22nd, so start saving those pennies!
